Marion County Sheriff’s Office to host two safety classes for teen drivers in April

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will host two free driver’s safety classes for local teenagers next month, and enrollment is now open.

The Teen Driver’s Challenge is a free driver safety course offered by MCSO to help upcoming teen motorists be safe on Marion County’s roadways. The course is for young drivers (ages 15 to 19) who have a learner’s permit or driver’s license with at least six months of driving experience.

The upcoming classes will be held on Saturday, April 1 and Saturday, April 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will meet across the street from Well Bilt Industries (3001 SW 67th Avenue in Ocala), and the class will consist of classroom instruction and vehicle operations.

During the one-day course, participating teens will learn about topics that include teenage crash facts, drug and alcohol use, aggressive driving and road rage, threshold/emergency braking, backing, cornering, evasive maneuvers, and more.

Driving is the leading cause of death among teenagers, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office states that it is committed to doing everything possible to reduce the chances of young motorists being involved in a traffic accident.

To sign up for the Teen Driver’s Challenge course, visit the Teen Driver Challenge webpage and fill out the forms that are provided there. Some of these forms will need to be notarized.
