Morriston man killed, another critically injured in two-vehicle crash in Levy County

A two-vehicle crash with rollover on State Road 121 in Levy County killed a Morriston man and critically injured a man from Gainesville on Saturday night.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol arrived on scene to investigate a two-vehicle collision that occurred on State Road 121 near the intersection of NE 184th Court. Shortly before the accident, a 2016 Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on State Road 121 and a 1999 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on the same road, according to FHP.

The FHP incident report stated that the pickup truck entered the westbound lane of travel to pass multiple vehicles in a ‘no passing’ zone. Moments before the crash, the pickup truck crossed back into the eastbound lane as the sedan was approaching.

The front of the pickup truck proceeded to crash into the front left of the sedan. Due to the impact, both vehicles were redirected and overturned onto the north and south shoulders, according to the FHP report.

The driver and sole occupant of the sedan, a 25-year-old Morriston man, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The report stated that it is unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The pickup truck’s driver and sole occupant, a 55-year-old Gainesville man, was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital for treatment of critical injuries that were sustained in the accident.

The crash is still under investigation.

The names of the drivers involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
