Evelyn Charlette Flucas
December 12, 1952 – March 3, 2023
Evelyn Charlette Robinson Flucas, fondly known to everyone as Charlette was the first child and oldest daughter of Charles H. Robinson and her now centenarian mother, Inez Wilkerson Robinson. She was born in the 12th month on the 12th day, 1952 in Newnan, Georgian. After several years, the family moved to Valdosta and it became the place everyone called “home”.
Being the daughter of an educator, Charlette was studious and was a graduate in the Class of 1970 at Valdosta High School. Hers was the first integrated class of VHS. Following high school, she continued her formal education at Valdosta Technical School was then an honor graduate of Albany State College (now University). At Albany State, Charlette was initiated into the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. As Business majors, the students were active in various organizations to prepare themselves for their professions. So did Charlette. She served as the National Student Business League Vice President and the Phi Beta Lambda (Future Business Leaders of America) Treasurer.
Charlette was reared in a loving Christian home and believed very early that Jesus Christ is the Way and accepted the Savior at the Saint Paul AME Church in Valdosta. She began her leadership and service in the Young Adult Choir, the Thomas Hudson Women’s Missionary Society and taught Sunday School while at Saint Paul.
In 1971, Charlette was united in marriage to the late Calvin Flucas and to this union, their only son, the joy of her heart, Reginald was born.
As a business professional, Charlette’s career lead to many managerial positions with JC Penny in several cities in Georgia and finally Florida, which brought her to Lake City and then Ocala. She retired from JC Penny after 30 years of employment. Retirement was not for Charlette, so she moved from the retail industry to the banking industry and began a new managing side with BB&T Bank (now Truist) and then began a second retirement after banking.
Wherever Charlette lived and worked, she always made her way to Church. Yes, her membership began at Saint Paul, Valdosta. From there she joined Mount Pisgah AME Church, Lake City, Florida and the last membership was with Saint Paul, Ocala. No matter where she lived, Charlette was faithful to God and His service. Her time at Saint Paul, Ocala was nearly 30 years. The time at Saint Paul, Ocala included serving as a faithful “doorkeeper” by ushering, serving as President of the local Lay Organization, being a member of the Mayme Preye Women’s Missionary Society, serving as a Sunday School teacher and then being appointed to the Steward Board and serving as Chair pro tem. Whatever the case, Charlette loved Saint Paul and was very active and instrumental in many works of the Church. She gained the respect and love of the pastors and members until health issues caused limitations. Even when Charlette was no longer able to attend Worship Services, she never stopped asking about and supporting Saint Paul. One thing was certain, she loved the Lord, the Church and its work!
Charlette loved reading, shopping, caring for the elderly and most especially her family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Stacey and Maggie Wilkerson and her father Charles H. Robinson.
To cherish her memory with love are: her devoted son, Reginald (Charlotte) Flucas, Kissimmee, Florida; her loving mother, Inez Wilkerson Robinson, Valdosta, Georgia; grandchildren Darron Woodberry, Shayla Hampton and Jazmin Flucas; great grandchildren Kaylee Hampton, Adrian Woodberry and Ginger Hampton; siblings: Elaine (George) Burks, Decatur, Georgia, Bernard(Joyce) Robinson, Valdosta, Georgia, George(Johnette) Robinson, Apple Valley, Minnesota and Nancy Robinson, Valdosta, Georgia; godchildren, Chenita Cunningham, Iyonna Nichols and Jaelan McDonald, Ocala, Florida; loving friends, Roslyn Edwards, Barbara Pertee, Lake City, Florida; Carol Croskey and especially Kendra James, Ocala, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
