It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Leroy Hypke, age 71, of Ocala, Florida on March 9, 2023.
Beloved husband of Felicidad, nee Romboyong, for 47 years. Loving father of Teresa (Maurice) Carruthers. Proud grandfather of Cole, Kendelle, and Conrad. Dear brother of the late Carol (Jonathan) Coleman, George (Cathy), and Mary (the late Alton) Prihoda. Fond uncle of Kara, Ryan, Shannon, Kayla.
David attended Lincoln Land Community College and went on to serve as a Springfield, Illinois police officer for 25 years. David also served on the executive board of the Police Benevolent & Protective Association in various positions including Treasurer, Vice President and President. Upon retirement from the police force, he started a home construction business in Springfield, IL. He also obtained the rank of 4th degree black belt in Okinawan karate and owned and operated the Chatham, IL Okinawan Shorin-Ru karate school alongside with his wife Fely for over 20 years.
David was also an outdoorsman which provided many lifelong memories with family and friends. During his retirement years in Florida, he was an avid karaoke singer and was the Vice President of the OTOW Democratic Club. He will be greatly missed by his family and all friends that came to know and love him.
Memorial service will be Monday, March 27, 2023 at 10:00 am at Meadowbrook Church, 4147 SW 20th St, Ocala, FL 34474. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org (http://cancer.org/).
