Man shot, killed by ex-girlfriend’s father after domestic dispute in Gainesville apartment

A man died on Saturday night after he was shot at an apartment complex in southwest Gainesville following a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Gainesville Police Department officers responded to Polos Apartments located in the 2300 block of SW Williston Road in reference to a shooting incident.

Upon arrival at the apartment complex, officers located a man near a car who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. The officers started CPR until paramedics arrived on scene, and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to GPD, a domestic battery incident had occurred inside the ex-girlfriend’s apartment earlier in the evening. The police department stated that the shooting victim had physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend, and he fled the area prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Approximately 30 minutes after the physical altercation, the shooting victim returned to the incident location. When he entered his ex-girlfriend’s apartment, her father was inside the apartment and armed with a handgun.

GPD stated that the ex-girlfriend’s father proceeded to fire one shot that struck the victim in the chest. The victim fled to his car where he was later found by officers.

The names of the individuals involved were not released by the Gainesville Police Department. No arrests have been made and the fatal shooting is under investigation.
