Marion Theatre to host premiere of locally filmed series ‘Backstreet’

The Marion Theatre is preparing to host the season premiere of a series that was filmed in Ocala and the surrounding areas.

On Saturday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., audiences will be treated to a free screening of “Backstreet” at the Marion Theatre, which is located at 50 S Magnolia Avenue in Ocala.

“Backstreet” is a fictional series that depicts hardships such as relationship issues, mental health, and survivalist stories. It was written and directed by Tekulve Jackson with the help of his wife, Theresia Jackson, and their long-term partner and friend, Paralympic medalist Regas Woods.

According to the Marion Theatre, the goal of “Backstreet” was to provide local talent with an opportunity to show off their abilities while pursuing their ambitions of acting, directing, and filming. During the early stages of the series, enough content was created for three episodes, but Tekulve and Theresia decided to take a break from filming to regroup when it became evident that they needed a larger team.

After a four-year hiatus, Tekulve and Theresia upgraded their filming equipment, and they reached out to multiple local filmmakers, videographers, actors, and actresses. They were also joined by cinematographers Christin Hayes and GBG Photography (Governor Jamal Mosley).

“Backstreet” is the first of many projects that are being worked on by the creative team, which has grown from two to three individuals to a team of 30-plus local actors, actresses, and cinematographers.

Tickets to the premiere of “Backstreet” are free, but they must be reserved online.
