Marion County Supervisor of Elections seeks election workers

The Marion County Supervisor of Elections is currently accepting applications from citizens who are interested in serving as election workers.

According to the Marion County Supervisor of Elections Wesley Wilcox, over 800 residents throughout Marion County are appointed to serve as election workers. These individuals are paid to work at Election Day polling places and Early Voting sites, and they are trained to operate equipment while being well-versed on voting procedures and Florida’s election laws.

In order to be eligible to serve as an election worker, citizens must: be a registered voter in Marion County; be able to speak, read, and write in English; pass the competency exams; have transportation to and from the assigned working location; be available to work a 14-hour day beginning at 6 a.m.; and meet the physical requirements (standing, bending, stooping, lifting 40 pounds, normal vision, and manual/physical dexterity).

Marion County residents who are interested in becoming an election worker can click here to fill out an application. Election workers are most needed in the areas of Citra, Fort McCoy, McIntosh, Reddick, and Umatilla, and the available positions include:

  • Clerk – The manager of an Early Voting site or Election Day polling place. Typical duties include addressing voter registration and voting issues, completing Election Day forms and related paperwork, and returning required items to the Election Center on Election Night.
  • Assistant Clerk – Works at the direction of the Clerk to perform the necessary duties to manage a polling place.
  • Tab Inspector – Responsible for the setup and operation of voting machines, and also performs procedures relating to the opening and closing of polls.
  • EViD Operator – Responsible for processing eligible voters via the electronic voter identification device (EViD) and issuing ballots.
  • Poll Deputy – Responsible for the deployment of polling place signage, and also maintains good order at the polls.
  • Early Voting – Works at an Early Voting site to perform similar duties as on Election Day, except for the duration of the Early Voting time frame.
  • Field Technician – Provides technical support to polling places on Election Day.
