Ocala hosting two public meetings this week to discuss proposed golf cart expansion

The City of Ocala will host two public meetings on Thursday, March 30 to discuss the proposed expansion of the downtown golf cart map.

Both meetings will be held at the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IHMC), which is located at 15 SE Osceola Avenue in Ocala. The first meeting will begin at noon and the second meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m.

These meetings are free to attend and open to the public.

The meetings will cover the proposed golf cart map expansion, and members of the community will be able to provide their input. City staff will also be in attendance to answer any questions regarding the proposed map and other ordinance concerns.

The two sessions are available to accommodate the public, and the same information will be presented at both meetings. Downtown business owners, current golf cart permit holders, and those potentially impacted by this change are encouraged to attend.

Residents can click here to see if they are currently in the golf cart area. Anyone operating a golf cart or low speed vehicle within the downtown area is required to register for a one-time permit at a cost of $30.

According to the city, this registration fee is used to provide law enforcement with ownership information in the event of an accident or theft. A decal will be assigned to the golf cart and must be displayed on the left side of the vehicle.

To apply for a permit, visit the City of Ocala golf cart registration webpage to start the application process.
