Marion County sheriff’s detectives investigating murder of 59-year-old man in Citrus Park

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is seeking information from the public to assist detectives with their investigation into the homicide of a 59-year-old man in Citrus Park.

On Saturday, March 25, at around 10:50 a.m., MCSO deputies responded to a residence in Citrus Park to conduct a well-being check on Timothy Floyd Smith because he had failed to show up for work the previous day. When deputies entered the home, they located Smith’s body, and he appeared to have suffered a violent attack prior to his death, according to the sheriff’s office.

“My detectives have been working around the clock to investigate this brutal murder and what we have learned so far now leads us to believe that it was committed by somebody who the victim knew,” stated Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods.

Sheriff Woods added, “Somebody out there knows something. No piece of evidence or bit of information is insignificant. If you know something that may help advance this investigation, please pick up the phone and call us.”
