Man killed, 3 injured in crash on State Road 40 in Marion County

A 52-year-old man from Ocala was killed, and three others were rushed to the hospital, after two vehicles collided on State Road 40 in Marion County on Sunday night.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., a pickup truck was traveling westbound on State Road 40, just east of County Road 314, in Silver Springs. At the same time, a sedan was heading eastbound on State Road 40, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the pickup truck veered into oncoming traffic, and the front-left of the vehicle crashed into the front-left section of the sedan.

Marion County Fire Rescue personnel arrived on scene, and the 52-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The pickup truck’s passenger, identified as a 48-year-old woman from Ocala, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Both occupants of the pickup truck were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the FHP report.

The sedan’s two occupants – a female driver and 7-year-old girl from Deltona – both sustained serious injuries. The driver was transported to a local hospital, and the child was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville for medical treatment.

The age of the sedan’s driver was not specified in the FHP report.

Due to the accident, all lanes of State Road 40 near the intersection of County Road 314 were temporarily closed.

The names of the individuals involved in the crash were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
