Some books are not age-appropriate for kids

To the Editor:

In response to the letter from Josephine Leyte-Vidal, society has banned children from many things deemed inappropriate for their age: R-rated movies, marriage, having sex, nudity, driving, voting, consuming alcohol, smoking, renting hotel rooms, and rental cars, to name a few. These activities are restricted until the child reaches a certain age. The books being “banned” are restricted only until the child has reached a certain age. We don’t allow cigarettes, sex, alcohol, drugs, R-rated movies, Playboy magazines, etc., in schools. Certain books leaning towards pornography, rape, and pedophilia are not age-appropriate for kids. While these things are part of the real world, they should not be encouraged in a child’s school.
