Tourism app launched by Ocala/Marion County

A brand-new tourism app has been launched by the Ocala/Marion County Visitors and Convention Bureau in celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week.

The OcalaMarion Travel Guide app was designed to make it easier for visitors and residents to explore destinations throughout Marion County. The area provides a variety of activities for outdoor adventurists, foodies, art enthusiasts, history buffs, equestrians, and more.

“This week marking the 40th National Travel and Tourism Week not only provides us with the opportunity to share how important tourism is to the economic prosperity of our community, but to also encourage our local residents to be tourists in our own county and explore,” stated Loretta Shaffer, Tourism Development Director for Marion County.

“The new app will be so effective in doing this and will be a great tool for our front line workers and concierge teams to help share the destination,” added Shaffer.

The travel guide is now available in the Apple App Store  and Google Play Store. The custom app showcases upcoming events in the community, provides information about tourism-related things to do in the area, and highlights places to stay. Additional features include self-guided tours, insider guides, itinerary building, and more.

Ocala/Marion County is known as the Horse Capital of the World, and the app features a section specifically for horse-related things to do in the area, including a Walk of Champions. The Ocala/Marion County Visitors and Convention Bureau partnered with the Ocala Metro Chamber and Economic Partnership and the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ & Owners’ Association to create a downtown interactive experience that highlights some of the most famous champions from the area.

The first phase of the Walk of Champions – the digital experience provided by the app – is complete. The next phase, which is expected to occur in the next several months, will include the installation of plaques on the sidewalks in Downtown Ocala to spotlight Ocala/Marion County’s equine stars.
