Man caught with meth outside Steak ‘n Shake in Ocala

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 53-year-old Silver Springs man near a local Steak ‘n Shake restaurant after drugs and related paraphernalia were found in his possession.

On Sunday, May 14, shortly before 2:30 a.m., an MCSO deputy observed a man, later identified as Jerry Roger Milton II, sleeping outside the Steak ‘n Shake located at 5180 NE 24th Street in Ocala. The deputy approached Milton and spotted drug paraphernalia that was “in plain view,” according to the arrest report.

The deputy made contact with Milton and asked him to stand up. In the report, the deputy noted that a blue straw with a burnt end was observed near Milton.

A pat-down search of Milton was conducted. In the right pocket of his shorts, the deputy located a pack of cigarettes containing a gray baggie that was filled with a crystal-like substance.

After being read his Miranda rights, Milton admitted that he uses methamphetamine. He told the deputy that the straw was “used for meth,” and he advised that the substance inside the baggie was meth as well, according to the MCSO report.

The deputy noted in the report that the straw and baggie with the substance both field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Milton was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $3,000 bond. He is facing a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, according to jail records.
