Man steals $1,000 leather jacket from victim’s garage

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 32-year-old man in Ocala after he was accused of stealing a leather jacket valued at $1,000.

On Tuesday, an MCSO deputy and a lieutenant responded to a residence on Emerald Court in reference to a theft that had occurred earlier in the day. Upon arrival, they made contact with the male victim who advised that he had returned home and was unable to find his leather motorcycle jacket, according to the arrest report.

The victim advised that he reviewed his security cameras, which showed a man walking up to his residence. The male suspect then proceeded to enter the victim’s garage and stole his leather jacket.

The lieutenant observed the security footage from the victim’s home and immediately recognized the suspect from an earlier encounter that same day. The MCSO report identified the suspect as Corey Ray Tuten.

The lieutenant had responded to an earlier call in reference to a man who was screaming while walking southbound on Emerald Road with a liquor bottle in his hand. The lieutenant made contact with the man, identified as Tuten, and he was “wearing the same motorcycle jacket” at the time, according to the MCSO report.

After speaking with the victim, the lieutenant conducted a search of the area, and Tuten was spotted at the Murphy Express gas station located at 17 Cedar Radial Pass.

Tuten was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $12,000 bond. He is facing felony charges for unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft over $300 but less than $5,000.

A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, according to jail records.
