A 34-year-old woman from Ocala was involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County on Tuesday evening.
Shortly after 6:45 p.m., a 2010 Infinity G37 was traveling northbound on I-75, near mile marker 246, in the outside lane. The vehicle had two occupants – a 45-year-old man (driver) and 40-year-old man (passenger), both from Ruskin, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.
At the same time, a 2014 Chevrolet Volt was traveling northbound, ahead of the Infinity G37, in the center lane. The woman from Ocala was identified in the report as the driver and sole occupant of the Volt.
As both vehicles approached the exit for Big Bend Road, FHP stated that the Infinity G37 entered the outside shoulder to pass another vehicle before traveling ahead of the Volt to the inside lane. The driver of the Infinity G37 then “cut back” into the path of the Volt.
According to the report, the right rear of the Infinity G37 proceeded to collide with the left front of the Volt. After the impact, the Infinity G37 struck a traffic sign, and both vehicles rotated before coming to a final rest along the outside shoulder.
The passenger in the Infinity G37 sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. The report stated that the vehicle’s driver sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the Volt was not injured in the accident.
FHP stated that the driver of the Infinity G37 is suspected of racing a white or cream-colored Dodge Charger moments before the fatal crash occurred. If you have any information about this crash, troopers ask that you call *FHP (*347).
The names of the drivers and passenger involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
