1 killed, another critically injured after ATV crashes into utility trailer in Marion County

A man was killed and a woman was critically injured on Saturday night after their ATV struck a utility trailer in Marion County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, the ATV was illegally traveling on SW 56th Avenue shortly before 11:20 p.m. The fatal accident occurred when the driver of the ATV, identified in the report as a 41-year-old man from Ocala, failed to see a utility trailer that was parked on the roadway.

FHP stated that the front of the ATV proceeded to crash into the front of the trailer. After the impact, the driver and passenger, identified in the report as a 40-year-old Ocala woman, were both ejected from the ATV and landed on the roadway.

Marion County Fire Rescue personnel arrived at the scene of the crash. The ATV’s driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by an MCFR lieutenant at 12:27 a.m.

The passenger was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in critical condition.

The names of the driver and passenger were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
