FDOT to begin $4.3 million improvement project on S Pine Avenue this week

The Florida Department of Transportation is preparing to begin work on an intersection improvement project on S Pine Avenue (U.S. 441/U.S. 27/U.S. 301), between SW 3rd Street and NW 2nd Street, to enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Road construction will occur nightly, beginning on Tuesday, May 30, between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

According to FDOT, the $4.3 million improvement project will include the addition of a dual left turn lane on northbound U.S. 441 to State Road 40, and the left turn lane will be extended from southbound U.S. 441 to State Road 40. In addition, the northbound left turn lane from U.S. 441 to NW 2nd Street will also be extended.

During the project, existing travel lanes will be resurfaced, turn lanes will be widened, and traffic signals will be upgraded. Additional work will include drainage improvements, pavement markings, and sidewalk modifications that comply with current Americans with Disabilities (ADA) standards.

Motorists should expect lane closures and detours on weekdays and weekends during construction. Electronic message boards and other signage will be used to direct traffic through the work zone.

There will likely be uneven pavement in the project area since the contractor, C.W. Roberts Contracting, Inc., will be putting down different layers of asphalt during various phases of construction. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and reduce their speed while driving through the work zone.

The construction schedule may change due to weather or other unexpected conditions. FDOT states that the project is expected to be completed later this fall.
