Fire destroys vacant home in Ocala

Ocala firefighters quickly responded to NW Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue on Wednesday morning after receiving reports that a home was on fire.

Shortly after 5:55 a.m., multiple Ocala Fire Rescue units consisting of Engines 1, 3, and 4, Rescue 1, Tower 1, Battalion Chief 11, and a Safety Officer were dispatched to the 100 block of NW MLK Jr. Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews observed a single-story home that was approximately 50% engulfed in flames. According to OFR, the fire appeared to be inching its way from the back of the structure through the attic space, and flames were burning the roof.

After a water supply was established, firefighters began attacking the blaze while Rescue 1’s crew members searched the interior of the home to ensure that it was vacant. OFR stated that the fire was under control by 6:23 a.m.

There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
