Safety improvements at 4 railroad crossings in SE Marion County

The Marion County Office of the County Engineer, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation and CSX Railroad, has completed safety enhancements at four railroad crossings in southeastern Marion County.

The improved railroad crossings intersect at the following locations:

  • SE 80th Street – 1,500 feet east of U.S. Highway 441.
  • SE 73rd Street – 1,400 feet east of U.S. Highway 441.
  • SE 62nd Street – 1,300 feet east of U.S. Highway 441.
  • SE 52nd Street – 1,400 feet east of U.S. Highway 441.

Among the improvements are upgraded and updated warning devices, raised medians, and improved signs. This newly approved “quiet zone,” which will be in effect beginning on Friday, June 2, means that trains will no longer be required to sound their horns at crossings unless deemed necessary for safety reasons.

This is the second quiet zone implemented in Marion County. The first quiet zone, which stretches from County Road 42 to SE 135th Street, was implemented in April of 2017.
