Retro/New art exhibit opens this week in Ocala

An art exhibit showcasing 50 years of a local artist’s work will soon be on display at the Brick City Center for the Arts in Ocala.

The exhibit, Retro/New, will highlight the artistic evolution of David D’Alessandris by juxtaposing artworks created half a century ago with contemporary pieces.

D’Alessandris is known for his imaginative use of color and wide-ranging media. The materials used to create his artwork include acrylics, watercolor, fiber, paper, wood, metal, ceramics, and found objects.

On Friday, June 2, Marion Cultural Alliance will host an opening reception for the exhibit from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Brick City Center for the Arts, which is located at 23 SW Broadway Street. This reception is open to MCA members, artists, and patrons only, and it will include wine and tapas. Those who are interested in attending must RSVP.

Immediately following the opening reception, the gallery will open to the general public from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Retro/New exhibit will remain on display at the Brick City Center for the Arts through Saturday, July 8, during regular gallery hours: Monday through Friday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
