It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of James Robert Leonard, who departed from this world on May 23, 2023, in Ocklawaha, FL at the age of 61.
Born in Westport, Connecticut, James, lovingly known as Jay by his family and friends, lived his life with love, kindness, generosity, and fun, leaving an indelible impression on all who knew him.
Before moving to Florida, James resided in both Connecticut, where he attended Staples High School, and Vermont.
In his spare time, James liked to listen to music, play his guitar, interact with and take pictures of the cats he loved, visit the Lake Apopka wildlife drive, or just hop in the car for what he liked to call “adventures” – day trip’s meandering around the state, finding all the back roads.
James is remembered by his beloved wife, Mary; three children, James and Cierra Leonard, by his former spouse, Cindy; Katherine Kropinak (Beatriz), Mary’s daughter, who he made his own; and three grandchildren. James is also remembered by his mother, Nancy Macfarland, and his sister, Sandi Norsworthy. Furthermore, James is remembered by his brother-in-law, mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
A Celebration of Life service is arranged for 11 A.M. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Coehadjoe Park in Ocala, FL. The address is 4225 NE 35th Street, Ocala, FL 34479.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to charitable organizations such as Sheltering Hands, the Humane Society of Marion County, or VOCAL.
