Robert Patrick Bennett, 84, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2023. Born on March 29, 1939, in Plattsburgh, New York, he was the son of the late Moreland and Theresa (LeClerc) Bennett. Known for his passion for fly fishing, Robert’s enduring spirit and love for nature left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

On countless trout streams situated in the Northeast and Southeast US, Robert found a sanctuary. His passion for fly fishing was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his deep connection with the tranquility of nature. His adept skill at handcrafting fishing flies showcased his precision, dedication, and love for the sport. It wasn’t uncommon for family and friends to receive a clear, globe shaped Christmas tree ornament containing a single, brightly colored, red and green and silver fly as a holiday gift.

In his professional life, Robert exemplified diligence and a natural sense of creativity, earning him the respect of his peers. His retirement allowed him to pursue his passion for fishing even more, exploring new waters and perfecting his craft.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn; his son, Robert; and his parents, Moreland and Theresa. He leaves behind his daughter, Jenifer Mullen; his three brothers, Phillip, Mark, and William Bennett; a son-in-law, Jeffry Caudill; and five grandchildren: Richard and Sean Mullen, Alexandra and Catherine Caudill, and Elizabeth (Caudill) Deal.

As we remember Robert, we call to mind the words of Emily Dickinson, “Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality.” In this light, Robert continues to live on through the love and memories that his family and friends hold dear.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home. Family will gather together to fulfill his final wishes of scattering his ashes on the West branch of the Ausable River in New York and The Tuckasegee River in North Carolina.

Robert Patrick Bennett’s life was a testament to the beauty of pursuing one’s passions and the serenity of nature. Rest in peace Bob. Your memory will forever be a beacon of inspiration.
