To the Editor:
After reading about Ocala needing more, I have to disagree on some aspects. First, no, not everyone is into horses. However, this is a horse community, and pastures and acres of farmland and undeveloped property are what makes it great.
We are surrounded by large cities and growing areas just a short drive away. And although I hated to see Wild Waters go, adding a theme park now would also add to the congestion and traffic.
There are several theme parks as well as the traffic you can experience within an hour drive to Orlando. Just a little further and you can do that in Tampa or Jacksonville. As far as live music, sports bars, etc., several locations offer this and several more have been added.
Just north of Ocala is an exotic animal rescue and zip lining, and in Williston you can visit an elephant ranch. The Appleton Museum hosts lots of events, and you can join or just watch plays and performances at the Ocala Civic Theatre, or go to an escape room.
We have so many sports leagues, events, and facilities that cater to youth and adults. These are just a few examples of what Ocala really has to offer.
It’s nice what we have and to be the in the center of so much without actually having to be the big city.
