
Janice “Jan” Rae Mattix, the book-loving, bingo-playing, and gambling extraordinaire, bid adieu to this world on September 17, 2023, at the age of 77 in Ocala, FL.
Born on May 22, 1946, in Elkhart, IN, Janice was a force of kindness and humor that will be dearly missed. Jan was a hugger, wrapping everyone in her warm embrace and leaving them feeling lighter and brighter. She had a heart full of love for her grandchildren and her furry companions, making sure they were always showered with affection. Janice’s quick wit and infectious laughter brought joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing her and she was never afraid to mix a stiff Manhattan in the company of those she loved.
Survived by her daughters, Julie (Alec) Thomas of Ocala, FL, and Lori Mitchell of Ocala, FL, as well as her son Scott (Dana) Mitchell of Fort Wayne, IN, and stepson Mel (Brandy) Mattix of Middlebury, IN, step daughter Tracey (Scott) Stewart of Elkhart, IN. Her memory will forever be cherished by her grandchildren Layton Mitchell, Ashton Thomas, Chase Thomas, Ainsley Mitchell, Carter Thomas, and step-grandchildren Brenden Stewart, Ashley Stewart, Megan Mattix, and Bryson Mattix. Janice’s family circle also includes her brother James Williams of St. Louis, MO, and her brother Tom (Mary) Williams of Elkhart, IN, along with numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. She joins her parents, Mary and Ted Williams of Elkhart, her sister Janet of Elkhart, IN, and her brother Joel Williams of Arkansas in God’s Kingdom.
Janice was a graduate of Elkhart High School, class of 1964. In honor of Jan’s spirit, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Hospice of Marion County, Florida
