William “Bill” Colin Rollins passed away at the age of 81 on Friday, September 29th,, 2023.
Bill was born at his grandfather’s hospital in Gassville, Arkansas on November 4, 1941. Raised in the Ozark Mountains, Bill enjoyed country living and the simple things in life. He grew up working hard, playing hard, and having fun. He graduated from Cotter High School where he excelled in athletics and academics. Before he was of age, Bill fudged his birthdate and joined the Arkansas National Guard. Playing baseball was just one of his many talents and passions, and playing semi-pro baseball led him to play for a team in Newport News, Virginia. While he did not make it to the majors, it was there that Bill met and married the love of his life, Patricia Hedden. They raised three children together in Waldorf, Maryland.
Bill was a dedicated and decorated member of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for 23 years, where he reached the rank of Detective Seargent. During and after his time with the police force, Bill earned his Bachelor of Science degree from American University. He also worked in private security where he guarded heads of state, celebrities, and other high-profile leaders and dignitaries.
When Bill finally retired, he moved to Ocala, Florida where he enjoyed the warm weather, golfing, and most of all, the company of dear friends and family. He loved dogs, and could frequently be seen taking his dogs for golf car rides around his neighborhood. He was also known to throw parties for the other neighborhood dogs they met along the way. He was always ready to share stories about the many experiences he had during his well-lived life.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents Jim and Katherine Rollins; his brothers James “Jimbo” Rollins, Dr. James A. Rollins, and Thomas W. Rollins; his former wife Patricia “Patsy” Rollins; and his son, William “Billy” James Rollins.
He is survived by his daughter Kim (Scott) Whitmill; his son, Brett (Wendy) Rollins; grandson Kristopher (Brittany) Uzee; granddaughter Brianna Uzee; granddaughter Maylee Rollins; and great-grandchildren Cooper Shelton and Kallie Uzee. Bill is also survived by many friends and extended family, in particular the Ortiz family and Bill’s bonus grandchildren, Roman and Giada Ortiz.
A memorial service will be held at Baldwin Brothers located in Ocala, Florida from 1 – 3 pm on Saturday, October 7th. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in his name be made to the Humane Society of Marion County.
