Early life

She graduated from Fessenden High School, Florida A&M University, Brockport State University.

She taught at Smith and Brown elementary high school in Arcadia Florida

Lincoln high school in Palmetto Florida Mount Pleasant Elementary school in Irondequoit FL.

Ruby was a trailblazer. She was the first African-American to be hired and work in East Irondequoit school District. Also the first African-American hired to work and set up the library for Rochester city school district where she worked as a librarian, for three different schools for more than 29 years. She also was co-owner of family owned business, VJAXX Distribution Incorporated, for more than 25 years with her late husband, John W Jackson, Jr.

Christian life

Ruby received Christ at the early age of 11, at Greater new Bethel missionary Baptist Church in Flemington Florida. There she participated in all activities. Plus She was the secretary of the junior Sunday school committee. Later in life, she moved to Rochester New York where she raised her family. There she joined Northside Church of Christ under the leadership of brother, Edgar Brown, and then brother Wilson Dicker. She’s served there for more than 29 years. After retiring, she returned to Florida and join 27th Ave., Church of Christ under brother Joe Lee. There She actively served as a teacher of the ladies Bible class on Wednesday mornings. And class teacher for teenagers. she also was a speaker for various ladies day programs. She continued many of these positions as she joined and became a member of Woodland Place church of Christ.

She loved reading and learning more of the bible, listening to music in her “man cave”with her family. Her hobbies were sewing, reading, baking and word search puzzles.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memories her adoring daughters, Pomona L Seay and Evelyn R. Jackson, both of Flemington, Florida, sons by love, Gregory D Cotton (Sondra) of Bradington, Florida, and Jerome W. Jackson (Mary) of Sunrise, Florida,. A Brother Joe D Singleton, her special loves Joan Hatten and Roderick White all of Flemington, Florida. God-Daughters, Beverly Benjamin (Francis) of Melbourne, Florida and Verlisa Frazier Thorton (Timothy) of Flemington, Florida.

Sisters in law, Elvira, Thomas of Rochester, New York, Annie Faye, Thomas, Flemington, Florida.

Grand children, Charles G Marable, (Krystle) of Coral Springs, Florida, Jahnya V Jackson, Jahmier A Jackson, Jessica J Seay of Flemington Florida. Chadwick Jackson (Verlensia) of Margate, FL., LaKeisha Roundtree, of Brandon, FL. Alphonso Roundtree, Houston TX. Gregory Cotton, Jr of Bradenton, FL. , Patricia Rahming (Nate), Morgan Timmons (Jermaine), all of Miami, FL . A Special friend Almetta Mitchell of Orange Lake Florida. Along with great grands, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Most importantly her Christian family.

Preceding her death, are her loving parents Frank and Annie Henderson, her brothers, Milton A Singleton, (Miriam), JC Thomas, EC Thomas, her sister, Susie Young (Billy). And Sister-in-law, Erma Singleton. Close Cousins, Betty Daniels, Priscilla Pruitt and Minnie Williams (Hilton).
