Arthurine Blackmon Mitchell, daughter of the late George and Mary Smith Blackmon, was born August 25, 1936 in Montgomery, Alabama. She departed this life November 11, 2023 in Ocala, Florida.

Arthurine attended public school in Montgomery, Alabama. After graduation from Alabama State University in May 1958, she married the love of her life Bernard S. Mitchell, and they moved to Brooklyn, New York in July 1958. During her tenure in Brooklyn, she was employed by the United State Passport office, where she was elevated to the position of Assistant Regional Director. In this position, Arthurine met many worldwide dignitaries. She received many accolades from these travelers who recounted her affable personality and boasted about always being greeted by her winning smile and stellar service.

Arthurine was a devoted member of the Order of Eastern Star. After serving as Worthy Matron, she became Companion of the Royal House. Upon retirement, Bernard and Arthurine relocated to Ocala, Florida in 1994, where she became affiliated with the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Here she sang in the choir and led the Senior Citizen Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Evelyn Blackmon, Beatrice Sanders, Bertha Diddy, Robert Blackmon and Roosevelt Blackmon. Survivors include husband Bernard S. Mitchell, brothers Charles Blackmon and Orlando Sawyer, and a host of other relatives, including Doris Sturdivant.

Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL
