Juan Jose Perez Garcia of Dunnellon, FL passed away on December 4th, 2023.

Juan was a life-long New Yorker. He was born in Venezuela, where he played baseball, ran track, and excelled in swimming. In 1966, he moved to New York City where he met his wife Dora and had his only child. He attended New York University and worked as a Mechanical Engineer for the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, from which he retired after three decades.

He loved dancing (especially salsa!) and was a regular at the Cheetah Club and Palladium in New York City during the 1970’s. He also loved baseball, a day at the beach, and traveling in Europe, Asia and living in Spain. He was an animal lover, horses and especially dogs, most beloved were Bolivar, Lola and Choco.

He is preceded in death by his father, Juan de Dios Perez, his mother, Maria Dolores Garcia, his wife, Dora Leyla Ceballos de Perez, and sisters, Maria del Valle Perez, Ada Perez, and Celina Garcia. He is survived by his daughter Annakarima “Kari” Perez, his elder sister, Beatriz and younger brother, Marco Perez.

He believed in the goodness of humanity and was an eternal optimist -that God always watched over us. A mitzvah in his name is what we ask.

A memorial service will be held in NY at a later date.
