Cora Franklin Rawls
September 15, 1939 – January 28, 2024

Deaconess Cora L. Rawls was born on September 15, 1939, to Elizabeth Franklin in Evergreen, Alabama. She moved to Ocala with her family as a youth and joined the House of God Church under the pastorship of Bishop W. L. Nelson as the result of the outreach ministry of the church. Soon, all the Franklin children would attend the House of God Church, followed by their parents Leroy and Elizabeth Franklin, and their beloved grandmother, Novella Davis.

Cora attended the Marion County Public Schools and was a graduate of Howard High School class of 1958. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to John Edward Rawls, Sr. on February 6, 1959, in Ocala, Florida.

She was employed by Merritt and Nancy Fore as a housekeeper before she retired. Her hobbies included sewing, shopping, photography, baking cakes and anything that involved supporting her church, such as Saturday morning fish fry fundraisers.

Deaconess Rawls was a faithful member of the House of God Church in Ocala, Florida for more than 60 years, serving under the pastorships of Bishop W. L. Nelson, Elder Thelma Sanders, Bishop Cleve Butler and General Elder Christanel Butler and many other pastors. She was appointed to the Deacon Board and served as Church Treasurer and Sunday Bible School Superintendent for many years. Cora was a nurturer who loved children and would often hold and care for many of the children of her family and other church members during church service.

On Sunday, January 28, 2024, Deaconess Rawls was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her legacy of love will always ring in the hearts of those who knew her, for to know her was to love her. She will always be a blessing, and a rare jewel that can never be replaced in the hearts of her husband, children, siblings, and extended family.

Cora was preceded in death by her loving brothers, Calvin Franklin, Nathaniel Franklin, Sylvester Franklin, and Harold Franklin; her beloved sisters, Barbara Franklin, Linda Franklin, Sylvia Franklin and Katie Hart.

Deaconess Rawls is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Edward Rawls, Sr.; two sons, John Edward Rawls, Jr. and Courtney Rawls; two daughters, Pamela D. (Leslie) Angus and Katrenca E.
