Over 75 Marion shelter dogs find homes during 3-day event

A three-day adoption event in Plant City helped hundreds of shelter dogs find their forever homes, including nearly 80 dogs from Marion County.

During the MEGA Adoption Event, which was held at the Strawberry Festival Fairgrounds (2508 W Oak Avenue in Plant City) on Friday, May 17 through Saturday, May 19, a total of 459 dogs were adopted by their new families.

Among those happy dogs were 79 from Marion County Animal Services.

“Thank you to each staff member, volunteer, shelter, organization and the people working diligently behind the scenes to make this happen,” stated Animal Services in a social media post on Saturday evening.

Animal Services highlighted that the planning and labor that went into setting up, preparing, transporting, managing, and paying for the three-day adoption event was “no small feat.” Multiple organizations worked together and shared resources to make it happen.

During the MEGA Adoption event, Animal Services stated that its staff “laughed (and) shed a few tears” while “(coming) together for the cause that’s so strong in our hearts, homeless pets.”
