I-75 rest area undergoing significant renovations

A rest area on Interstate 75 in Marion County in between the roadway’s interchanges with two popular roadways is currently undergoing a series of significant renovations.

Construction on the northbound I-75 rest area located at mile marker 346, in between County Road 484 (exit 341) and State Road 200 (exit 350), began last Summer.

The project (438562-1), which has temporarily shut down the rest area plaza, calls for the reconstruction and renovation of the rest area facilities and amenities, as well as the expansion of parking for vehicles and trucks.

In August, crews began working to clear the area and resurface the truck parking lot. That parking lot will be turned into the new car parking lot, while a new truck parking lot and ramps will be constructed by crews.

Additionally, the rest area building is being completely renovated and new utilities and a perimeter wall are being added to the area.

The rest area has been closed for several months while crews work at the site.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the project costs $31 million an is estimated to be complete in early 2025.
