Marion school bus carrying 12 students involved in crash

A Marion County school bus carrying a dozen students was involved in a crash at an intersection in southeast Ocala on Thursday evening.

The accident occurred at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and SE 10th Avenue.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the school bus was traveling northbound on the highway prior to the collision. At the same time, a sedan was entering the highway from a business drive located on the west side of the roadway.

FHP stated that the driver and sole occupant of the sedan, a 29-year-old Ocala woman, failed to yield the right-of-way to the school bus as she crossed the highway into the northbound lanes. As a result, the right side of her vehicle struck the left side of the school bus.

A total of 14 individuals were on board the school bus at the time of the crash – a 64-year-old Ocala woman (driver), an adult aide, and 12 students.

A trooper noted in the report that the students were either placed onto another school bus or were picked up at the scene by their parents/guardians.

There were no injuries reported.
