Video shows car speeding into parked pickups before fiery, fatal crash in east Marion

Video captured the moment a car sped off a roadway and crashed into parked vehicles and a building in east Marion County before erupting in flames and claiming the life of a 63-year-old man.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of State Road 40 and NE 14th Street Road in Silver Springs just before 8 p.m. on Monday, June 10.

A report by the Florida Highway Patrol issued on Tuesday stated that the vehicle was traveling “at a high rate of speed” before the driver failed to “negotiate a curve towards the left.”

According to the FHP report, the man’s vehicle exited the roadway, entered the north grass shoulder, and then struck three vehicles in the parking lot of the Forest Veterinary Clinic. After striking the vehicles, the sedan struck a tree and overturned into a building before catching fire.

A short, 30-second video shows the incident in its entirety:

At the beginning of the video, the sedan can be seen entering the frame at a high rate of speed. The vehicle is seen hitting a mailbox before kicking up a plume of dust.

After colliding with the second vehicle, the sedan continues through the parking lot before crashing into a building. The dust plume that followed the crash temporarily obscures the video.

After the dust settles, the sedan can be seen ablaze in the background.

Witnesses saw the car after it crashed and it erupted into flames.
After the dust settles in the video, the car can be seen engulfed in flames.

Marion County Fire Rescue units responded to the scene a short time thereafter and found the driver trapped in the vehicle, which was “fully engulfed in flames.”
