City officials may allocate $150,000 more for painting services across Ocala

The Ocala City Council will decide whether or not to spend an additional $150,000 on city-wide painting services that were originally contracted last year for $30,000.

The matter will be discussed during the council’s meeting at Ocala City Hall on Tuesday, June 18 at 4 p.m. According to city records, in April 2023, the city issued a request for quotes for citywide painting services. Five competitive bids were received:

The city of Ocala received bids from five companies for citywide painting services last year.

The project was awarded to the three lowest “responsive and responsible bidders”: RMK Consulting LLC, DBA Kodiak Property Maintenance, based in Orlando; Five 12 Painting-Remodeling, LLC, based in St. Cloud; and Chinese Connection Painting, Inc., based in Ocala.

At the time, the contract was approved with “an aggregate expenditure of $30,000 for the initial two-year term,” according to city records.

Since the contract began last year, expenditures have totaled $49,284.

According to facilities staff, due to the city’s ongoing need for painting services and an “increase in commodity costs,” at least $150,000 is needed to “effectively cover anticipated projects and expenditures for the remainder of the initial contract term.” The term runs through mid-May of next year.

If city officials approve the allocation, the aggregate contract value will increase to $200,000.

The Ocala City Council regularly meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Ocala City Hall (110 SE Watula Avenue).
