Teen suspects being detained in Ocala after car burglaries

Two teenagers accused of burglarizing several vehicles in Hernando County were recently arrested and transported to an Ocala facility for detainment.

On Thursday, June 20, a male victim called 911 to report that unknown individuals had recently entered his unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a residence on Autumn Amber Drive in the Sterling Hills community of Spring Hill, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim stated that two suspects were caught on video surveillance footage taking a backpack from his unlocked vehicle. Among the items in the backpack was a loaded handgun.

The sheriff’s office stated that the video footage showed the two suspects committing the vehicle burglary before entering a vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of the roadway, just one house down from the victim.

HCSO deputies soon arrived on scene and observed the suspects’ vehicle, which was still parked in the same area. The male suspects, later identified as a 15-year-old and 17-year-old with ties to Pinellas County, were asleep in the backseat of the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

In addition. HCSO stated that a handgun was observed on the floorboard inside the suspects’ vehicle. Deputies later determined that this firearm belonged to the victim.

A criminal history search of both teen suspects revealed that they have been previously arrested for grand theft and conveyance burglaries.

According to HCSO, the teen suspects were also allegedly caught on video surveillance footage attempting to burglarize several other vehicles. During a search of the suspects’ vehicle, a second loaded firearm was located, which had reportedly been stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Golden Lime Avenue in Spring Hill.

Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center. After being processed at the facility, they were taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ocala, where they were currently being detained on charges of armed burglary of a conveyance (two counts).
