Car submerged in Rainbow River after driver flees from police

Local law enforcement authorities were working to remove a car from the Rainbow River this morning after a motorist drove into the body of water while attempting to flee from police.

The Dunnellon Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office were working to retrieve the submerged vehicle on Sunday morning, just hours after it was driven into the river in the city of Dunnellon.

Dunnellon Chief of Police Christopher Scaglione confirmed the incident in a brief email to Ocala-News.com this morning.

The chief, who responded last night to the scene, said he was still at the scene this morning and did not have access to the report at the time of our correspondence.

No further details were provided, although other media outlets have reported that the driver was arrested on various charges related to the incident.
