A home goods retail chain that opened a location in Ocala in May 2021 is closing that store and over 150 other locations across the country after filing for bankruptcy in federal court last week.
Conn’s, Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Southern District of Texas on Tuesday, July 23.
According to its website, Conn’s HomePlus currently operates 186 locations across the country. The company, which manages the Conn’s HomePlus and Badcock Home Furniture brands, will close approximately 174 locations across 15 states.
According to the bankruptcy filing, the company is hoping to terminate its store leases and complete its going-out-of-business sales by the end of October.
Over 70 of the locations are in the state of Texas, where the company is based, and 20 are in Florida. Those include multiple spots in Orlando, as well as Altamonte Springs, Orange City, and Lakeland, among many others.
In anticipation of the closure, Conn’s says it is offering a “Going Out of Business Sale” with item prices discounted between 30 to 50%.
The local Conn’s HomePlus is situated at 2800 SW 24th Avenue, Suite 200, near the recently relocated Todd and Shelly’s Pub and Cafe.
Founded in 1890, Conn’s sells home appliances including refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, and stoves, as well as consumer electronics, home office equipment, law and garden products, and bedding. Corporate estimates show that the company employs more than 4,500 individuals.
