To the Editor:
I was disheartened by Wayne White’s recent letter, which suggested that labeling Kamala Harris as Black is a tactic to secure votes. Such a claim is fundamentally flawed and inherently racist. Kamala Harris is Black, and her identity is not up for debate. She attended a historically Black university and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Her ethnicity has never been in question, except by the former president, whose motives were transparently divisive.
It’s regrettable that race continues to be a contentious issue, but it is absolutely unacceptable to insinuate that Harris is leveraging her race to garner votes. Her qualifications, experience, and capabilities stand on their own. Voters will support Harris based on her merits, not because of any superficial labeling.
