To the Editor:
I don’t understand why those in Ocala and surrounding areas preparing for hurricanes have to bag their own sandbags. Why aren’t the jail trustees you see on the side of the road picking up trash (only occasionally) preparing the bags so all residents have to do is drive up and have them loaded in their vehicles?
They are currently sitting comfortably in their cells while we are out there in 100 degree heat doing this heavy work, taking time away from the other chores we have to do to prepare our homes from potential damage.
Instead of complaining about their living conditions that they earned by choosing to break the law, they should be thankful for the cushy lifestyle where they have the luxury to feel safe from harm/danger/damage, while we are fretting/sweating because we didn’t.
Shame on you Marion County Corrections Officials for not utilizing these trustees and having them work for their keep.
