18-year-old accused of stealing two guns from home in Silver Spring Shores

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with felony grand theft after he allegedly stole two firearms from a home in Silver Springs Shores.

On Sunday, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to Hemlock Loop Way in Silver Springs Shores in reference to a theft incident. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a man, identified as 18-year-old Tristyn Derrium Mays, who was being “held down” by a male victim and witness, according to the arrest report.

The victim told the deputy that Mays had stolen his guns. In the report, the deputy noted that two pistols, a silver Kimber 1911 and SIG Sauer P320, were observed underneath Mays’ body.

According to the victim’s statement, he had invited Mays over to this house to “watch (Mays’) music videos on YouTube and to show (Mays) his firearms.” After seeing the firearms, Mays allegedly asked the victim if he could “take a drag off of the victim’s vape pen.”

As the victim turned around to get the vape pen, Mays allegedly grabbed two of the victim’s pistols and ran out of the house. The victim advised that he chased Mays into the yard and “fought (Mays) to the ground,” according to the report.

The deputy noted that Mays was detained in handcuffs and placed in the back of an MCSO patrol vehicle. After being read his Miranda rights, Mays denied taking the pistols and claimed that the victim had “jumped” him.

During the post-Miranda interview, Mays was asked why the victim’s firearms were found underneath him. The report stated that Mays refused to discuss the incident any further.

Mays was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $5,000 bond. He is being charged with two counts of larceny – grand theft of a firearm.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
