To the Editor:
I am writing to commend the ongoing improvements on State Road 464, a project initiated by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in August 2023 and expected to be completed by Spring 2025. This project, which extends from SW 2nd Avenue in Ocala to S.R. 35 in Silver Springs Shores, represents a crucial upgrade to Marion County’s infrastructure.
The scope of the project includes milling and resurfacing the road, enhancing pedestrian signals, and improving intersection lighting. However, the most notable aspect is the addition of new sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and bus stops. These enhancements will establish a continuous pathway from Northwest Ocala, through the I-75 and US Hwy 27 intersection, all the way to The Belleview Beltway (SE 92nd Loop) off Baseline Road (S.R. 35) and beyond, making our community more accessible and connected.
During a recent long walk from Northwest Ocala to the Baseline Landfill area, I was pleasantly surprised to find that new sidewalks are already in place, although they are still under construction. Despite the “sidewalk closed” signs, I found myself walking on these new paths late at night, driven by the excitement of finally having a more walkable route. It was a tangible reminder of the positive impact these improvements will have on our daily lives.
For those interested in staying informed about this and other road projects, I recommend visiting the Florida Department of Transportation’s District Five Projects Website. This resource provides detailed updates on ongoing and upcoming projects across Marion County and Central Florida, offering valuable insights into how our infrastructure is evolving.
I also encourage residents to engage with local officials and FDOT representatives to share feedback and stay involved in the development process. Your participation is essential for ensuring that these projects continue to meet the needs of our community.
Thank you to FDOT for their dedication to enhancing our roads and infrastructure. These improvements are a significant step forward, and I look forward to the benefits they will bring to our ever growing area.
