Dorothy Elizabeth Langejans, affectionately known as Dorothy by her loved ones, was a beacon of strength and independence whose life was as vibrant and spirited as her personality. Born on April 1, 1942, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, she entered into eternal rest on August 8, 2024, in Ocala, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the indomitable spirit that defined her.
Dorothy’s journey through life was marked by the joy she found in simple pleasures. Her love for the thrill of the casino and the excitement of gambling was matched only by her enthusiasm for a good game of Bingo. Her passion for country music was not just a hobby but a part of her soul; she reveled in listening to the twang of a guitar and often lifted her voice in song along with her favorite tunes.
Dorothy’s zest for life extended to her enjoyment of television and “running the roads,” as she cherished the freedom and adventure that came with exploring new places. At the heart of Dorothy’s world were her beloved children and their spouses: Julie Deason, Steve and Ellen Schminky, and Jon and Sandi Schminky. Her love for her family was as immense as the sky, and she was the proud matriarch to 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride into her life. She is survived by her brother Kenneth and his wife Janice Updegraff. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband Harris Langejans.
Dorothy was a woman of strong character, known for her feisty and stubborn nature. She had a clear vision of how she wanted things to be and was unapologetic about living life on her own terms. Her family and friends admired her for her tenacity and her ability to stay true to herself, no matter the circumstances. Living and dying her way, Dorothy’s final days were spent surrounded by the love of her family, who respected her wishes and stood by her as she had always stood by them.
Her memory will be cherished as a reminder that life is to be lived fully, with courage and an unwavering commitment to one’s own path. As we bid farewell to Dorothy Elizabeth Langejans, we hold on to the memories of her laughter, her voice singing along to a beloved country tune, and the indomitable spirit that made her so unforgettable. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and the stories shared among her family will ensure that her memory continues to inspire and bring smiles for generations to come.
