A new coffeehouse under construction in downtown Ocala is hoping to open this fall.
Brown Dog Coffeehouse is under buildout at 40 SW 1st Avenue. The new, 2,000-square-foot cafe is situated in between La Cuisine and a shuttered wine bar, a couple of doors down from District Bar and Kitchen.
According to city records, the property is owned by Ocala Broadway Partners, LLC, while the new business is owned by M. Keith DeVilling and his wife, Stephanie.
The couple contracted Sherman Mechanical Contractors, LLC to construct the cafe, and the engineer on record is Partin Architecture.
The business was issued a building permit earlier this year and crews have been working to transform the space over the past several months.
Although an opening date has not yet been announced, according to the company’s website, Brown Dog Coffeehouse is “opening soon.”
In a social media post last month, Mrs. DeVilling indicated that the business is planning to open “this fall.”
