A local nonprofit organization that helps rebuild the lives of individuals in need just acquired a 60-bed shelter that it will use to provide long-term stability.
Earlier this week, Wear Gloves announced the acquisition of the new Dignity House, its new, 60-bed shelter.
“This new facility will provide crucial housing and support in Marion County to help individuals regain independence through Dignity, Not Dependency,” reads a statement from the organization.
According to the organization, the facility will offer immediate emergency housing alongside comprehensive services to help residents regain their independence.
The shelter is located at 2001 SW 3rd Avenue. The purchase of the building was completed on July 31.
“The purchase of this facility was made possible by a grant from HUD Jacksonville and the support of our Marion County Board of Commissioners,” according to the organization.
Founded in 2009, Wear Gloves empowers the underserved to “overcome generational trauma, break cycles of dependency, and rewrite their narratives with dignity.”
The organization says it has positively influenced the lives of thousands of individuals over the past 15 years.
The nonprofit helps members find employment, attain job certifications, find housing, and develop life skills training.
Wear Gloves says it is working on renovating the space and “can’t wait to open the doors” to welcome its first set of residents.
