Ocala – Maurice Lee Sanborn, aged 83, passed away on August 24, 2024, in Ocala, Florida. Born on September 12, 1940, in Lewiston, Maine, Lee was known for his brilliant mind, gentle soul, and honorable nature.

Lee graduated from Brook Street School in Waterville, Maine, and later attended Gardiner High School in Gardiner, Maine. He pursued higher education at the University of Maine, setting the stage for a diverse and impactful career. Lee was a successful entrepreneur as the owner of Leader Development and had varied experiences working at Deltona Corporation, Tony Roma’s Restaurant, and the Maine Turnpike Authority. He also contributed to infrastructure projects in Standish, Missouri, helping build roads and bridges for a factory.

A veteran, Lee served in the Air National Guard for 14 years, dedicating himself to service with distinction and honor. His commitment to community was further evident through his volunteer work with the Belleview Rotary Club and his time served on the Marion County Board of Commissioners.

Lee was a devout Catholic and participated actively in his church community. His hobbies included sports car racing, studying war history, international travel, drawing, and spending time with his beloved pets. A lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, Lee’s love for all things automobile was only matched by his love for his friends and family.

Lee is survived by his son, LeeScot Maurice Sanborn of Cary, North Carolina; daughter, Heather Sanborn Ramirez of Ocala, Florida; grandchildren, Everest Sanborn and ScotDylan Sanborn Ramirez; and his recently divorced spouse, Marion Johnson Sanborn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Lee Sanborn Sr. and Semone Bishop, and his sister, Mary Ellen Bradford.

A memorial service will be held at his residence, 2625 SE 30th Place, Ocala, Florida, on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. He will be laid to rest at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Waterville, Maine, at a later date. Lee’s laughter, mischief, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
