A “coming soon” sign with a rendering of the new hospital has been posted at the 4.94-acre parcel, which is situated just north of Gaitway Plaza.

In August 2022, Ocala-News.com was the first local source to report plans to construct the 40,000-square-foot, physical rehabilitation hospital near the popular intersection. In 2023, the property was approved for rezoning by the Ocala City Council.

When complete, Everest Rehabilitation Hospital will serve patients who are recovering from strokes, brain injuries, neurological conditions, trauma, spinal cord injuries, speech impediments, amputations, pulmonary diseases, orthopedic injuries, and other medically complex conditions.

The hospital will offer inpatient and outpatient physical therapy gyms with technologically advanced equipment, an outdoor mobility courtyard for therapeutic use, aqua therapy, a fully furnished life skills training apartment with a kitchen and bathroom, in-house dialysis, and an in-house pharmacy.

The facility will feature 36 private rooms, each equipped with contemporary art, a 65-inch flat-screen television, and a private bathroom. There will also be gathering areas for families of patients, a dining hall, and an outdoor patio.

According to Everest Rehabilitation Hospitals Chief Executive Officer Jay Quintana, the Ocala location will provide one-to-one physical therapy, daily medical visits by rehabilitation physicians, and a “strong 24-hour-a-day nurse-to-patient ratio” that contributes to “optimal outcomes and the highest quality of care.”

Based in Dallas, Texas, Everest Rehabilitation Hospitals have been sprouting up throughout the state of Florida, with hospitals planned or built in Kissimmee, Lakeland, Ocoee, St. Petersburg, Viera, and Port Charlotte.
