Text messages landed a 56-year-old Silver Springs man behind bars over the weekend after he allegedly threatened to kill two men and an infant.
On Sunday, September 1, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office corporal made contact with one of the male victims who advised that a man, identified as Michael Gordon McComb, had threatened to kill the victim, his friend, and his friend’s infant child, according to the arrest report.
The corporal noted in the report that investigators later learned that McComb was friends with a relative of one of the victims, and McComb was upset with the victim due to a “perceived debt.”
While speaking with that victim, the corporal viewed the following text messages, which were allegedly sent to the victim from a phone number belonging to McComb:
- “You and your scumbag friend are f***in dead.”
- “I’m going to beat you and that mother f***in scumbag to death.”
- “Your a piece of scum.”
- “I f***in hate you and want his blood.”
- “Im going to find him and his baby and burn you alive for stealing from your [relative] so please send the cops to my house [because] I have friends in low places.”
- “Last chance to call me or that phone is off and your a** is mine.”
The report stated that the victim received the above text messages at around 3:35 p.m. on Friday, August 30, though he did not see the messages until the morning of Sunday, September 1, due to his phone being turned off.
The corporal responded to McComb’s home located on NE 134th Court in Silver Springs and made contact with him. After being read his Miranda rights, McComb allegedly admitted to sending the messages threatening to kill the two victims and infant child.
During the post-Miranda interview, McComb further stated that he had been “drunk” while texting the victim, and he allegedly made the threatening statements “out of anger,” according to the report.
McComb was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $2,000 bond. He is being charged with sending written threats to kill or do bodily harm.
On Tuesday, October 1, McComb is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
