To the Editor:
Why do the citizens of Marion County have to ask permission (fill out a form) to pay their taxes quarterly? Why can’t they pay monthly? As a senior citizen, it is very difficult to come up with
2,000 dollars to pay real estate taxes. That is 2/3 of our monthly income. What do we leave out for the month?
The electric bill? The mortgage? Groceries? The car payment? Why can’t this be paid monthly?
Why must I apply for homestead exemption only by March 1? Why can’t this be applied for when one purchases a home? As a commissioner, you should be looking out for your constituents instead of what’s best for the government. We need help here! This economy is killing us.
Living on a fixed income is hard enough as it is, but with this economy, it is very difficult. I have asked these questions of all the commissioners and have received no answers.
