A series of double and single-lane closures will be in effect all week across various stretches of State Road 200 in Ocala, and two side streets will be closed to through traffic for multiple days as crews work to create an upcoming lane shift on the roadway.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the lane closures went into effect on Sunday, September 8, and most of them are scheduled to last through the end of the week.
There will be double-lane closures along southbound and northbound lanes on SR 200, from south of SW 34th Avenue to SR 464/SW 17th Street. Those will be in effect beginning 7 p.m. today, and extending through 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 15.
There will also be single-lane closures in both the northbound and southbound lanes from SW 34th Street to SR 464/SW 17th Street. For the northbound lanes, those closures will go into effect at 4 p.m. today and stay in effect until 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 15. For the southbound closures, those go into effect at 7 p.m. tonight and will remain in effect until 11:30 a.m. on September 15.
Additionally, beginning at 6:30 p.m. tonight, northbound lane closure will be in effect from SW 24th Street/MLK Avenue to SW 5th Avenue until 7 a.m. on September 15.
As a result of the work on the roadways, the state reports that SW 34th Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Sunday, September 8 through Saturday, September 14.
“A detour route and all required signage will be in place to access the Paddock Mall,” reads a statement from FDOT. For southbound travelers looking to access SW 34th Avenue, make a left onto SW 32n Avenue, and make right onto SW 31st Road to SW 34th Avenue. Northbound travelers should take a right onto SW 32nd Avenue and turn right onto SW 31st Road to SW 34th Avenue.
Beginning Thursday, September 12, SW 6th Avenue will also be closed to through traffic. A detour route will be in place for northbound travelers, directing them to turn right onto SW 5th Avenue and right onto SW 10th Place to reach SW 6th Avenue. Southbound travelers should make a left-lane-only U-turn at SW 7th Road/SW 10th Avenue, and then turn right at SW 5th Avenue and right onto SW 10th Place. to reach SW 6th Avenue.
All of the roadway improvements are apart of FDOT Project 439234-1, which calls for the implementation of operational and safety improvements along State Road 200, from east of Interstate 75 to U.S. Hwy 301 in Ocala. In addition to resurfacing the roadway, the project plans to replace segments of the existing center two-way left turn lane with raised medians.
