A 41-year-old Ocala woman accused of possessing methamphetamine is facing additional charges after she allegedly attempted to smuggle fentanyl-laced marijuana into jail in her vagina.

On Sunday, September 8, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office sergeant was patrolling the 4700 block of NE 18th Place in Ocala when a Ford Mustang was observed in the parking lot of a closed business. The arrest report stated that the vehicle was parked across several parking spaces.

The sergeant approached the vehicle and made contact with a woman, identified as Terri Leigh Chase, who was the registered owner and sole occupant. According to the report, the interior of the vehicle had the “distinct odor of burnt marijuana,” and Chase was ordered to step outside so a search could be conducted.

During a search of Chase’s vehicle, a small plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance was allegedly found on the dashboard on the driver’s side, directly in front of where Chase had been seated. The substance later field-tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the report.

After being read her Miranda rights, Chase claimed that she was unaware that the bag containing methamphetamine was in her vehicle. She was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail.

While at the jail, a full body scan of Chase was conducted, and an “anomaly” was detected on the image “in the area of her vagina.” A strip search was conducted by deputies, and Chase allegedly attempted to conceal the object by “further pushing it into her vagina,” according to the report.

A deputy noted in the report that the object in question, a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, was eventually recovered from Chase’s vagina. The substance, which weighed less than four grams, field-tested positive for the presence of marijuana and fentanyl.

Chase is currently being held at Marion County Jail on a $9,500 bond. She is being charged with possession fentanyl, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of cannabis (less than 20 grams), possession of drug paraphernalia, and introduction of narcotics into a county detention facility.

A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, according to jail records.
